Chapter 111
Naomi turned to Brendan and laughed. “It’s rare for you to be in the mood. I’ll indulge you then.”
But when Brendan came out of the shower, she was sitting in front of the computer and studying case
files again
Although she was still wearing the sexy pajamas, she didn’t look too eager for their bedtime activity.
Brendan paused in the middle of drying his hair, and his expression shifted abruptly.
“Are you going against your words again?”
She had been teasing him since they had been at the bar, and she was still leaving him hanging.
Hearing this, Naomi turned to Brendan with the printed materials still in her hands.

“Tomorrow. I’ll definitely fulfill my promise to you tomorrow.”
Without waiting for Brendan’s answer, she continued, “This case is a bit complicated. I won’t be able to sleep if I don’t make progress today.”
Although Naomi usually appeared carefree, she was actually a workaholic.
Brendan tossed the towel and ran a hand through his hair,
“Naomi, I have lost all trust in you. Don’t ever lie to me again.
Sensing Brendan’s unhappiness, Naomi put down her work and stood up.
She walked over to him and threw her arms around his neck. “Are you angry?”
Brendan moved her hands away without saying a word.
Naomi hugged him again. “Don’t be! Why don’t you wait for me to sort out my thoughts? Then, we can have a round or two. I won’t have the mood to do it otherwise.”
Brendan removed her hands again. “The mood is lost. Go play by yourself.”
Since Naomi wasn’t in the mood, Brendan wasn’t either. After all, it was always her who made the first
move.
Seeing that Brendan had avoided her embrace again, Naomi frowned and stomped her feet. “Brendan Ludwig.”
Brendan adjusted her pajamas, which had slipped off her shoulder, and calmly stated, “You’re supposed to be working. Go on with your business.”
Seeing that Brendan wasn’t angry, Naomi took advantage of the situation. “You’re free anyway. Come help me organize the case files.”
Brendan gave her a blank look. It was bad enough that she kept him up all night. But now she was asking him to help her work.
Chapter 111
Although he was reluctant, he still went over to help her.
As Naomi went through the case files, she said, “It’s a homicide case. The suspect is a boy who just turned 20 years old last month.
“When he was 7 years old, his mother was abused by his family. Since he spoke up for his mother, his
father and two uncles beat her to death in front of him.
“It was a rural area, and it was a family crime. So, the matter was swept under the rug.
“His father got married just 6 months after his mother’s passing. You can probably imagine how his life turned out. He never had a decent meal and was always beaten.
“When he was 11 years old, he ran away from home. I don’t know what he went through in the last 9 years.
But I do know that he’s not much of a talker.
“Before officially taking on this case, I visited him twice and it took a lot of effort for me to get him to
speak.
“He returned to his hometown two months ago and killed his father and two uncles when no one was
expecting it.
“But he didn’t harm anyone else. He didn’t even seek revenge on his grandparents, who had goaded his father into beating his mother.”
Naomi grew melancholic as she spoke about the case.
After a moment of silence, she continued, “If his father and two uncles had shown him a little mercy back. then, he wouldn’t have lived with hatred all his life.
After a pause, she said, “Back then, death by poisoning, hanging, and drowning were all exclusive methods of death for women in rural areas.
“Despite society’s development and the constant advocation for gender equality and fairness, inequality against women was still a norm.”
It was why Naomi always took on divorce cases, civil cases, and even family disputes.
Even if the other lawyers frowned at such cases, she would do her best to lend her client a listening ear and try her best to resolve the issue.
After all, who knew what they were hiding underneath their indifferent facades?
