Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Wayne, the heir to the Garcia family and a major player in Denisville, glanced at the beer bottles in their hands with a smirk. “So, are those for drinking or for throwing?” Wayne usually had laid–back vibe, but when he got serious, he commanded
attention.
Carlos felt sweat bead on his forehead. He quickly hid the beer bottle behind him and tried to look apologetic. “We must have come to the wrong place, Mr. Garcia. Please, go ahead with your business.
As he spoke, Carlos glanced at Lenore, memorizing her face. He hurried the others out, quickly retreating and shutting the door quietly behind him. They had entered with bravado but were now leaving feeling deflated and cautious.
Ivan, his brow furrowed, questioned Carlos about the man who seemed to be untouchable by the Duncan family’s own heir in Jinslenburg. “Carlos, who is this guy we’re dealing with?”
Visibly relieved, Carlos wiped his brow and got serious. “We’re talking about the Garcia family’s heir from Denisville.”
The mention of Denisville caused Ivan’s expression to drop, and the group exchanged surprised looks,
They were big shots in Jinslenburg, but in Denisville, they were just small fry–not even close to the top players.
Ivan hesitated, then pressed on. “What about the girl?”
Carlos, a racing enthusiast, had taken a few girls for a joyride after drinking too much. The night ended with a traffic stop, a trip to the station, a hefty fine, and his car being towed–a blow to his ego like no other.
With a glint of resolve in his eyes, Carlos barked out orders. ‘I want you to figure out her links to Mr. Garcia and put a tail on
her.
In the private room, everyone was unfazed by the commotion.
The food came quickly. Wayne gazed at Lenore, surprised. “Lendre, is she really your sister?” He got the feeling that Esther was the manipulative type with a deceptive exterior.
Lenore, all relaxed with her legs crossed, looked up with a casual gaze, a touch of coolness still in her eyes. “You could say that.”
Wayne was at a loss for words. He remembered how she’d said “maybe” when he asked if Troy was her real dad, and now “you can say that” about her sister. He wondered why getting a straight answer from her was like pulling teeth.
Silas grabbed a drink for Lenore, his look focused, his tone calm. Those guys earlier were looking to mess with you, weren’t they?”
Lenore took a sip of her drink and laughed. “Bring it on,” she said her tone daring.
Silas raised an eyebrow but let it go.
Nighttime settled in at the Regal Villas, in Block 4 of Area A. Lenore came out of the bathroom, scrubbing her hair with a towel, and powered up her computer. She rejected a video call from Siren and fired up some special software.

Lenore’s gaze fixed on the door to Bonnie’s room, her expression shrouded in deep thought. After a moment, she opened a software program on her laptop.
Her screen glowed with a 3D model of the human body, organs all neatly tagged. Sipping water, Lenore pulled herself together and started to work on finishing the model.
Monday morning found Lenore right on time at school, strolling past the watchful teacher at the gate.
As she stepped into the classroom, a basketball rolled over to her She stopped it with a flick of her foot.
Lenore made the school uniforms look casual yet daring, oozing confidence that the boys couldn’t help but envy.
Lance, a tinge of jealousy in his tone, pointed to the basketball at her feet with a half–smile. “That’s mine, actually.” He’d been holding onto it, prepping for gym class.
Lenore kicked the ball back and strolled to her seat. She pulled out a chair, sat down with one leg crossed, and threw her hoodie over her head, ready to sleep. After a long night dealing with the model issue, she was exhausted.
“Uh… Lenore?” Just as she was about to drift off, a voice interrupted her, accompanied by a light tap on her desk.
Lenore lifted her head, her eyes reflecting annoyance and indifference. She hadn’t spent much time in the dorm lately and didn’t recognize most of the people around her.
Her “don’t mess with me” aura intimidated Tara slightly. Tara spoke gently, “I’m here to collect the homework.”
