Chapter 152: He’s Got the Nerve of a Brick Wall!
After everything was done, Gavin walked over to Cassius with as much respect as he could muster.
Cassius shot him a cold, sharp look.
A hint of a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
The proud, almost cocky old man, who’d been holding his head high just moments ago, straightened up like a kid caught in the wrong.
He stood there, stiff and cautious–like a kindergarten student in front of their teacher.
Cassius’s voice was flat, but it hit hard.
“Got my evidence you were looking for?”
His words weren’t loud.
But they felt like a mountain pressing down on Gavin’s chest.
Gavin’s heart was racing, his body shaking.
He couldn’t even speak.
He was too scared to meet Cassius’s eyes.
He wanted to disappear into the ground.
Cassius raised an eyebrow. “And you want me locked up?”
Gavin’s legs buckled.
His whole body was trembling, and he couldn’t control it.
Cassius scoffed.
“Gavin Volk, I didn’t know you had it in you. Guess it’s true what they say–‘a man’s got to be seen in a new light after a few days.“”
Gavin was at a loss, wanting to explain but not even knowing where to start.
If he could just go back in time…
He’d slap some sense into the younger version of himself for taking on this job.
Stupid! Stupid moron!
Was he seeking death?
Meanwhile, Derick, who’d been watching everything unfold, was even more shocked than before.
Sure, he’d always known his eldest son had some skills.
But they were all backed by the Raven family’s power.
Without that, where would Cassius be?
He thought that by firing his son, he’d be pulling the rug out from under him.
But now it seemed like he’d lost control of the whole situation.
“What are you trying to do?”
He wheezed, clutching his chest, gasping for breath.
“Don’t forget, I hired you. You don’t want the final payment?”
Gavin rolled his eyes internally.
His “savior” was being ridiculously forceful,
This old man had the nerve to try and screw him over.
What had he gotten himself into? This was the worst boss ever.
“Well, as you can see, I’ve switched sides,” Gavin said, his tone casual but laced with pride.
For an old guy, he knew how to pull off a dramatic line, standing tall as if he had a righteous cause,
Derick almost thought he was hearing things.
But once it sank in that he’d been played, his mind was spinning,
He’d lost it
“You… you…”
Gavin was practically enjoying himself now,
“What? No work ethic?”
“Yeah, I’m a traitor.”

“What are you gonna do about it? Bite me?”
He grinned.
“Oh wait, forgot you can’t really bite back–too many fake teeth. I’ll let you off easy.”
Derick nearly passed out from the rage.
He never imagined that Gavin Volk, a man with untold wealth and international position whatsoever.
What had Cassius done to get him on his side?
It was driving him mad.

He glared at Cassius, then at the group of bodyguards with Shawn, all of whom looked like they could handle anything.
It wasn’t the time to get in a fight. Today, he’d misjudged the situation.
But next time? Cassius wouldn’t get away so easily.
“We’re leaving!”
He spat, trying to swallow his fury.
His eyes burned with hatred as he turned to walk toward the car.
But just then…
“Mr. Raven, look out!”
Before Derick could react, the car suddenly jerked into motion.
Kaspar, quick on his feet, yanked him out of the way.
The car veered off course and slammed into a nearby wall.
Bang!
The front of the car caved in, airbags deploying inside.
Luckily, no one was inside.
Otherwise, there’d be no survivors.
Even Derick, who’d seen his fair share of chaos, found himself imagining what it would’ve been like to be in that car.
Just inches away from death.
He looked pale, his heart racing.
He could barely speak
Kaspar, shaking with anger, glared at Cassius and the others.
“What’s going on here?”
Shawn, with a lazy smile, shrugged.
“Kaspar, after all this time with me, you still don’t know we do autonomous vehicles?”
He just tweaked the car’s programming.
A piece of cake.
Didn’t even need Cass to lift a finger.
He flashed an even bigger grin.
“Since you’ve chosen to betray me, you should’ve known this is what you’d get.”
Kaspar gritted his teeth. “Mr. Smith. You’re joking, right? I just worked at your company for a bit before I quit. What’s the big deal? I still have freedom, don’t I?”
Shawn clapped his hands.
“Okay, you’ve got a sharp tongue.”
“Well, that makes it easier on me.”
Kaspar blinked, clearly confused.
Shawn turned to Cassius.
“Cass, you ready?”
Cassius stood there, radiating cold like he’d just walked out of an ice cave.
His eyes were calm, but there was a storm brewing inside.
It was enough to make anyone avoid his gaze.
Gemma stepped up beside him, standing shoulder to shoulder.

Their presence seemed to merge, like a burst of fragrance–fresh and invigorating, sharper than any perfume.
She gently tugged at his sleeve, her fingers brushing his hand.
It was brief, but enough to send a spark through Cassius.
His eyes lit up, as if fireworks were going off inside.
He slowly turned his gaze to Derick.
“Since you’re here, why rush off?”
“Let’s talk about what you owe my mother, and while we’re at it, we can discuss the company split.”
Derick, still shaken, stared at the wrecked car and took a deep breath, his teeth grinding.
“Owe your mother? What do I owe her? She owes me!”
He said it so confidently, as though he really believed it.
That didn’t go unnoticed.
He looked almost smug now, full of misplaced anger.
Shawn couldn’t help but laugh.
“Old man, you’ve been living in the lap of luxury for so long that you’ve forgotten who the Raven family used to be?”
Derick’s face turned pale, the reality of it hitting him hard.
Years ago, the Raven family had barely scraped by with small–time deals. But when they got into the steel trade, things changed.
Too many partners, not enough fair distribution… it turned ugly.
And Derick had nearly lost his life in the process, hunted down and beaten to near death.
That’s when Evangeline Harrington, Cassius’s mother, had saved him.
What followed was a fairy–tale romance, but it ended in tragedy..
Evangeline had married him with a massive dowry, only to find out he was cheating with Pamela–someone he’d known since childhood.
Evangeline, devastated, went into early labor and died.
She passed away before she could even take a look at her child.
Derick and his mistress, Pamela, climbed the corporate ladder while stepping over her grave.
Now, Derick had the nerve to act like he’d never wronged her?
He’s got the nerve of a brick wall!
