Chapter 112: Mr. Cassius Can’t Escape the “Good Guy Card”
Noah had already gotten used to Gemma coaxing him to sleep.
So, the bedtime story was only halfway through when the little one fell asleep.
Gemma looked at him peacefully sleeping, feeling soft inside.
She couldn’t help but relax as well.
She even forgot the unpleasant things that happened with Marcus and Margaret,
She too drifted into a deep sleep.
Cassius opened the laptop.
He video called Brooke,
After discussing everything about the “Artemis file,” a knock on the door sounded.
It was the delivery guy, bringing the pajamas.
The size was just right.
He glanced down at himself.
Then, he actually curled his lips into a slight smile.
The next morning.
Gemma woke up to the sound of talking.
She opened her eyes and saw her familiar surroundings, still a little disoriented,
After a while, she managed to get up and checked the time
It was only 5:00 AM.
So carly?
Was Cassius an old man?
Since her guest was already awake, she didn’t feel right about staying in bed, so she climbed out of bed,
In the living room.
The man was sitting on the couch in the pajamas she had bought for him, working on his laptop.
He seemed to be in a bad mood.
His face was dark.
It seemed that her door opening had disturbed him.
When he looked over, the chill in his gaze could freeze an entire pool.
But as soon as he saw her.
The chill seemed to melt away.
“You’re up?”
Gemma snapped back to reality.
She looked at him and noticed the dark circles under his eyes and the bloodshot veins.
“You.. you didn’t sleep last night?”
Gemma felt a wave of guilt.
She had slept soundly while forgetting to care about her guest’s feelings.
Cassius, a man of such stature, must’ve never had to sleep on a sofa like this before.
And a very hard sofa, at that.
No wonder he couldn’t sleep.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you’d be uncomfortable. Noah isn’t up yet. Why don’t you rest in the bed? I’ll make breakfast for you.”
Cassius looked away.
“It’s not about the sofa, it’s just that I have work to do.”
Gemma was taken aback but quickly understood.

“Of course, managing such a big company must come with a lot of pressure.”
“But you can’t always skip sleep, you’ll end up being less effective in the long run.”
Cassius nodded. “I’ll rest after I finish this.”
Gemma, though curious about his work, knew it was likely related to company secrets, so she didn’t ask further.
She changed into her clothes and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
6:00 AM.
She finished making breakfast, but Noah was still asleep.
Since kindergarten didn’t start until 8:30 AM, she wasn’t in a rush to wake him.
After all, proper rest was the foundation of good health for children.
“Do you want to try some?” She asked, offering the maple syrup pancakes she had made.
Even Cassius, who seemed uninterested in food, looked tempted.
“Work never ends, but to do good work, you need a healthy body. If you’re not well, everything else is in vain.”
She pointed to the fried eggs she had made.
“If you don’t eat well, you’ll be wasting the day.”
Cassius actually stood up and walked over.
The smell of the food teased his senses, making it hard to resist.
“Your cooking is very good.”
Gemma propped her chin on her hand and watched him eat. “But you’re not in a good state.”
Cassius didn’t reply, but he sat down, eating a fried egg and sipping some coffee.
The gloom on his face eased a little.
Eating well really can improve one’s mood.
His mood seemed to relax considerably.
“Gemma.”
His voice was a little hoarse.
Gemma’s heart skipped a beat.
It felt like electricity was dancing on her nerves.
Her ears burned, feeling like they were about to burst into flames.
“What’s wrong?”
Cassius, still focused on his food, seemed to miss her unusual behavior. After a moment of thought, he asked.
“Do you know about the Artemis File?”
Gemma snapped back to attention, quickly turning her face away to suppress the wild beating of her heart.
“I know. It’s an ancient medical text.”
“But it’s a niche one. I heard from my teacher that it was written by the wife of a royal physician, documenting the prescriptions the royal physician gave each time.”
“The physician served the emperor, and most of the prescriptions were for the emperor, his concubines, and high–ranking officials.”
“There’s another book that’s similar, called “Grinny’s Notes“, but that one is more general. It records common people’s illnesses and the treatments they used.”
“Both of these books are lost now.”
As she spoke, Gemma’s expression grew a little downcast.
Throughout history, medical knowledge was passed down through families or teachers.
The spread of this knowledge was limited.
Many valuable things were lost.
The Artemis File‘ hasn’t been lost.”

Chapter 112: Mr. Cassius Can’t Escape the “Good Guy Card”
Cassius’s words felt like a giant stone dropped into Gemma’s heart, sending ripples through her thoughts.
“What?”
Her face showed pure disbelief as her eyes widened, her hands shaking as they gripped the table.
“Where is the book?”
Cassius didn’t expect her to react so strongly.
In fact, it was the first time he had seen her like this in all the time they’d known each other.
“I don’t know.” He said, calm as ever.
Gemma’s hopes fell in an instant.
Cassius, a master at manipulating people’s emotions, said with a serious face,
“But there’s news that it will be available at tonight’s auction.”
Gemma had never been to an auction, but she knew the rules.
She automatically started calculating her current savings and thought that maybe she had a chance.
“Can you, can you tell me the address of the auction? I, I want that book.”
Cassius, still serious, responded.
“I also want that book.”
Gemma almost didn’t know how to respond. “Ah?”
To be honest, she had some self–awareness.
She was nowhere near on the same level as the national treasures.
Cassius not caring about their doctor–patient relationship was understandable.
And he had already given her a heads–up–he was showing her a lot of respect.
She drooped her head like a wilted flower, feeling defeated.
“You’ll come with me to the auction to help verify the authenticity of the book tonight. Afterward, the book will be handed over to the government, but you can borrow it for three days.”
Gemma froze, her heart soaring from hell to heaven in an instant.
Her face couldn’t hide the immense joy she felt.
“Cassius, how can you be so thoughtful! You’re the most amazing person in the world!”
Cassius’s face remained unchanged, but he frowned and asked.
“Is this what they call the ‘Sorry–you–are–a–good–guy card“?”
Gemma was stunned again.
What’s that?
