Chapter 72: There’s No Way She’ll Marry Mr. Cassius
“Gemma, Gemma, are you done yet?”
Noah ran in, clinging to Gemma’s arm.
Like he wished he could turn into an accessory she wore.
Shawn watched Noah act like this and grew even more amused.
“Noah, why do you like Dr. Kelestine so much?”
Noah lifted his chin proudly. “Of course, I like her! Gemma’s the best! She’s going to be my Aunt someday!”
Shawn nearly choked on this unexpected revelation.
“What?”
Cassius, that monk–like man who avoids women entirely, could get married
“Kids shouldn’t lie, you know, Santa’s got a blacklist for fibbing little brats
Noah puffed up his cheeks. Tch, you ancient fossil!”
Excuse me? Ugly? Fine. Broke? Sure.
But ancient? That’s a step too far!
If it weren’t for Cassius, this little gremlin would already be getting a life lesson… the hard way.
Gemma, despite being “accused of such nonsense, poked the little guy’s check.
“Don’t say silly things, sweetie. Be good and wait a bit. I’m almost done here.”
Noah immediately sat obediently on a small stool nearby.
Shawn’s jaw nearly dropped
So well–behaved
Was this really the little troublemaker he knew?
Gemma finished the check and began writing a prescription:
“You’ll need to take this medication for a week. After that, I’ll check the situation and decide whether to adjust or stop the
Treatment
Shawn accepted the prescription, still a bit dazed.
As Gemma turned to speak to Noah, Shawn suddenly rugged on her white coat.
“Dr. Kelestine, are you really going to marry Cass?”
Gemma froze,
Noah often teased her about becoming his Aunt
At first, she felt embarrassed.
But after observing Cassius’s indifference to such comments, she let it slide.
Since he didn’t care, she wasn’t that pretentious.
That’s why she forgot to correct Noah immediately.
But Shawn was a grown man–and Cassius’s close friend, no less
She couldn’t just brush this off.
“I’m not marrying Cassius.”
This didn’t surprise Shawn
But Noah!
His little heart shattered instantly.
Tears welled up in his big, shiny eyes, threatening to spill any second.

Besides-
The room’s temperature also plummeted dramatically.
Shawn instinctively glanced at the door.
Cassius was standing there. No one knew when he arrived–or how much he overheard.
But his expression was like the calm before a storm.
Oh no.
Shawn groaned inwardly.
Why couldn’t he keep his mouth shut?
Now he was doomed by his own curiosity.
His sluggish, injury–ridden brain cells scrambled to find a way to salvage the situation.
Say something!
“Actually, Dr. Kelestine, you could-”
“I’m already married.”
Gemma’s words were like a bombshell.
It took Shawn a long moment to process this.
Back when she saved him overseas.
All he knew was that she was a doctor gaining field experience.
He’d wanted to look into her background to repay her someday.
But Cassius had taken over the matter personally.
He was totally fine with that.
So, Shawn hadn’t known anything about her marital status until now.
This, this, this….
How long had it been since they’d met last!
Had Cass secretly ventured into forbidden romance?
That’s insane.…….. but cool… but still not right.
While stealing someone’s wife was immoral, maybe… it’s worth it?
“So, I can’t marry Cassius. Even if I think about my future, I’d have to get divorced first,” Gemma added.
Shawn, “…”
Oh, so that’s how it is
Why couldn’t she just say that earlier?
He nearly had a heart attack!
Noah’s eyes lit up instantly
“So, that means Gemma won’t marry anyone for now, right?”
Gemma gently pinched his cheek. “The law doesn’t allow bigamy.”
Noah patted his chest in relief, letting out a long sigh
Clearly, he’d been terrified too.
The icy atmosphere of the room suddenly warmed up, like someone turned on a heater.
Cassius walked in slowly, resting a hand on Shawn’s shoulder.
“Looks like you’re recovering well.”
Shawn winced as the pressure on his shoulder intensified, nearly cracking his bones.
“Uh, yeah, pretty well…”
“Then lie down and rest.”
d. “Got it!”
Shawn didn’t dare disobey, pulling the blanket over his head.
Only then did Cassius turn toward Gemma, who was whispering to Noah
“The lawsuit’s reached mediation. It’ll be resolved within a week.”
A rare smile appeared on Gemma’s face.
“That’s great news.”
She picked Noah up in excitement and spun him around before heading to the backyard to plant cabbages with him.
After she left, Shawn suddenly had a realization.
“Cass.”
He peeked out from the blanket.
He asked as if it was his dead wish.
“Were you just reminding Dr. Kelestine that she’ll be a free woman in a week and can consider her options?”
Cassius gave him a glance.
It sent chills down his
spine
The room turned cold again.
Shawn quickly retreated under the blanket, trembling
He must’ve gone insane to poke the tiger.
Gossip is fun!
But life is precious
No more meddling!
The next day.
Gemma officially returned to work.
Miles, the director’s assistant, approached her. The column requires a casual portrait. I’ve arranged a photographer.”
Gemma assumed it’d be someone from a local studio and got up to greet them
To her surprise, Brian walked in with a camera.
“Surprise,” Miles said with a grin, “Dr. Read was a photography enthusiast in high school. His skills rival professional photographers.”
He gestured at Brian’s camera.
“That model? There are only a few like it in the country.”
Brian smiled softly, exuding warmth like sun in spring.
Just standing near him felt comforting
“Gemma, don’t worry. Just move around naturally, and I’ll handle the rest.”
Gemma, still feeling guilty about Marcus punching him, hesitated.
“Brian, isn’t this too much trouble for you?”
Brian chuckled. “If your column does well, the director might finally take notice of me. This is an opportunity, not at hassle.”
His words, always tactful, never felt forced.
Gemma wasn’t one to overthink things. Since she’d continue working as a doctor, avoiding awkwardness with Brian was
essential.

She took a deep breath and smiled “Alright.”
“I’ve set up a photo studio in the lounge. Let’s go there,” Brian suggested.
Gemma nodded, relieved. There were things she wanted to clear up with him privately anyway.
