Chapter 44: If Anyone Insults Gemma, They Will Be Punished, No Matter the Distance
By now, the man finally started to feel afraid.
He yelled.
“I was wrong! I shouldn’t have attacked the hospital system. I’ll compensate, just take the money from my account!”
The family of the patients finally understood.
“So it was this guy who hacked the hospital system!”
“Unbelievable! And he even threatened Dr. Kelestine!”
“The system’s back up!”
“Did you not notice? The system was already restored, and your family is fine.”
Someone slapped themselves in the face, “I’m an idiot! How could I have thought about attacking Dr. Kelestine? My wife was saved by her!”
In the ICU, everyone watching felt a sense of satisfaction.
But Cassius didn’t stop.
The hacker was already barely hanging on, barely alive.
“Please, let me go!”
Cassius finally spoke up.
“Not possible.”
The hacker’s eyes widened, “I said I would pay! Isn’t that enough?”
“Anyone who insults my friend will pay the price, no matter how far away they are!”
The hacker burst into tears, “But she didn’t kneel!”
Cassius didn’t answer.
Instead, he hit the “Enter” key again.
“Ahhh!”
The computer the hacker had used like a lifeline exploded!
The hacker screamed and spat out more blood.
All the screens went black.
They didn’t see what happened to the hacker in the end.
But they all knew.
They felt so relieved
In the ICU, Mr. Gray finally woke up.
He should’ve woken up earlier, but the hacker’s program delayed him.
“Grandpa!”
Cedric slid down on his knees in front of Mr. Gray’s bed, “Grandpa, you’re awake! I was so scared.” Mr. Gray looked at his grandson and couldn’t help but smile.
But his senses were gradually coming back, and he noticed there were a lot of people in the room.
His eyes shifted and landed on Gemma, standing next to Cassius, her eyes slightly red.
“My My.” He coughed a few times, trying to sit up, but Cedric stopped him.
“Grandpa, you just woke up. Don’t move around too much.”
Mr. Gray stared at Gemma.

“My savior.”
Cedric quickly moved out of the way and looked at Gemma,
“Dr. Kelestine, could you…?”
Gemma spoke up. “You’re out of immediate danger, but you still need to follow post–op care instructions and watch your
diet.”
Even though it was the simplest of advice, Mr. Gray’s face softened.
Tears welled up in his eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
Earlier, at the event, he’d doubted Gemma’s professionalism and even criticized her unfairly.
But it was this person, whom he had doubted, who had saved him at a critical moment.
Gemma quickly waved her hand.
“No need to thank me.”
She hadn’t taken it personally.
After all, who wouldn’t be upset if someone questioned their competence?
Strictly speaking, she was just doing her job as a doctor.
It didn’t feel like a big deal.
Mr. Gray was weak. Even though he wanted to say more, he didn’t have the strength.
The hospital director had arranged for someone to clean up the mess, and everyone slowly began to leave.
The room quickly became quiet again
Gemma walked out with Cassius.
*Mr. Cassius, I didn’t know you were someone even more impressive than a hacker!”
Cassius remained indifferent. “He was stupid.”
Gemma thought to herself, “Someone that stupid can still break through the hospital’s firewall and mess with medication?” “What does that make me, then?”
A total amateur?
No need to be too harsh to herself. She’s just an ordinary doctor.
“This is the second time I have to thank you.”
“You helped Tommy, I helped you. We’re even. No need for thanks.”
He was always brief and to the point.
Gemma paused.
“Mr. Cassius, are you worried I’ll stick to you just because you helped me?”
Cassius paused for a moment.
“Would you?”
“Eh?”
Gemma almost bumped into him.
Cassius looked down at her, her pale face now flushed with a bit of color, her hair loose and tousled, and the funny expression she had-
She looked like a cartoon character in a light–hearted comedy.
He actually smiled.
Just the slightest curve at the corner of his lips.
Enough to shock the assistants and bodyguards around him.

“Would you stay by my side because of gratitude?”
Gemma didn’t expect him to take it seriously.
She was a little shocked but quickly recovered.
“Well, that depends if you’re paying enough.”
When the money’s right, anything’s possible.
Cassius‘ smile deepened.
“Mm.”
And that was it.
Gemma was still waiting for him to say more, but he just turned and walked off?
She helplessly followed him, escorting him out.
After watching Cassius and the little angel leave, she turned back to the hospital and saw her colleague Rachel running toward her.
“Gemma, thank God you’re okay.”
Rachel was her college friend, and they were usually very close.
Gemma smiled slightly. “Just got lucky.”
Rachel pulled her aside to a quieter spot and lowered her voice.
“Lindsay set you up earlier. She’s already been operated on and sent to a ward. You’re her attending doctor.”
What???
Gemma was processing the shocking news.
“At that time, the fire sprinklers malfunctioned, and everyone panicked. I don’t know who stepped on her leg, but it broke.” Gemma still didn’t get it, “Shouldn’t she be in the orthopedic ward then?”
Rachel sighed.
“Besides the broken leg, she has a lot of other injuries, from being shoved by the family members of other patients. She needs a surgical consult.”
But then she hesitated, gritting her teeth.
“Karma’s a bitch. She’s already been fired, and now she’s in your hands. She’s probably going to be in constant fear.” Gemma understood now; the surgical department likely made adjustments on purpose to let her “get even. “That’s perfect. When I’m back for my shift this afternoon, I’ll go check on my old colleague.”
Rachel laughed.
“Just be careful. Even though she’s been fired, she knows the hospital’s reporting procedures well–Don’t let her find any weakness to use against you.”
“Got it, Rachel. I’ll be careful.”
She quickly returned to the ward and indeed found Lindsay, just sent from surgery.
“No, no! I want a different doctor!”
Lindsay’s pupils shrank when she saw Gemma. Her heart almost stopped from fear.
Gemma smiled lowly.
“Go ahead, scream all you want. No one’s going to help you.”
Lindsay was s so scared.
She started to cry like crazy.
“Dr. Kelestine, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been jealous of you. I shouldn’t have listened to Ms. Johnson’s lies. Please, let me go. I’ll do anything!”
Gemma’s expression grew cold.

“What do
you mean by that? Is it because of Mabel that you targeted me?”
Lindsay’s tears flowed freely.
“Yes, she promised me so many benefits. L. I asked you about the details of your paper was so angry, so L… L…”
