hapter 25: The Food Gemma Sent
Gemma froze for a moment.
She looked down.
The little hand was tugging at her shirt, and the big eyes were full of fear, tears welling up, as if they were about to fall any second
Her heart melted.
She gently ruffled the little angel’s hair.
“I have to
back to work. If you miss me, you can come visit me.”
Noah lowered his head.
Tears streamed down his face.
Gemma felt a pang of heartache
She completely forgot about Marcus’s outburst earlier.
She squatted down, patiently comforting him.
“Don’t
you need to
to school, Noah! If you miss me, you can call me, and I’ll pick you up from school and take you for something yummy, okay?”
Noah stopped crying.
Gemma carefully wiped his tears away.
“When the weekend comes, I can ask Mr. Cassius to take you to the amusement park.”
Noah’s eyes lit up at this
He even stretched out his little finger.
Gemma extended her pinky, and they made a pinky promise.
“Promise?” “You have my word.”
Noah spun around in circles, gleeful.
Gemma quickly packed up her things, and Cassius had the car ready to take her back.
As she watched the car drive off, Noah turned around
His little face was serious and determined.
“Uncle Cassius.”
He spoke with conviction.
“I want to go to school.”
Cassius’s usual icy expression softened into surprise.
“I’m not lying. I want to go to school.”
Noah repeated.
Cassius immediately called Brooke over to arrange for school enrollment.
As for himself, he went to his study.
In the study, there was a book that was a fake–move it slightly, and a hidden room would open.
This secret room was only about five or six square meters, furnished with just a table and a small stone tablet with no inscription. Around it, there were plaster angels and flowers.
The stone tablet was blank
But he stood there for a long time, staring at the tablet before finally leaving the room.
Chapter 25: The Food Gemma Sent
Gemma returned to the hospital and began her rounds, recording patient conditions and consulting with colleagues to see if anyone needed new medication.
It was a busy day.
But when her shift ended and she returned to the empty rental apartment, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Eventually, she went to the kitchen.
At the hospital.
Mabel arrived late.
She only had to say a few words before she had Alijah calm and no longer crying.
The table in the room was piled high with junk food.
Burgers, fried chicken, instant noodles, and various snacks were everywhere.
Alijah, who had wanted his mom, suddenly cheered up.
He first grabbed a bag of fries, then snatched a fried chicken leg and started munching away, getting grease all over his face
“Mabel, you’re the best.”
He realized now that he shouldn’t have compared Mabel to his mom.
Mom was always annoying, nagging him to eat things he didn’t want.
“You like it? Good.”
Mabel smiled.
She had it all figured out–once it got dark, she’d pretend to be busy and leave.
During the day, like now, when Marcus was in a bad mood, she’d just comfort him a bit.
It’d win Max’s favor without any real effort.
Perfect!
“Max, you must be hungry too. I had the chef make your favorite. Want to try y ir?”
“Yeah”
Marcus seemed a bit down.
But he still responded to every word she said.
“This new drama I’m working on? It’s definitely helpful for my career. I really appreciated for what you’ve done for me.”
This role was one Marcus had gotten for her through a friend.
“Yeah, as long as you like it.” Marcus didn’t seem to care much.
Mabel cautiously asked, “The director wants to treat you to a meal. Do you have time recently?”
Marcus suddenly seemed a little irritable.
When Gemma was around, he didn’t have to worry about whether he’d be free.
He’d just tell Gemma, “Not coming home tonight,” and be free as a bird.
Now..
He glanced at Alijah, who was stuffing his face in bed.
“Ill see how it goes.
After all, he’d already notified Gemma..
He wasn’t sure when she’d show up.
“Max, did you not sleep well last night? You should rest up.”
“No need.”
He did want to leave, but Alijah was refusing to cooperate with the nurse, even causing a scene now and then.
Chapter 25: The Food Gemma Seni
Even if he left, the nurse would probably just call him back.
“Ugh, this drama came at the worst time. Otherwise, I’d have more time to spend with you guys,”
Mabel sighed, carefully checking his mood before continuing
“Max, I think Gemma regrets it. If you just give in a little and make it easier for her, she’ll definitely come back.”
Marcus felt like Mabel had hit a nerve.
He felt a flush of anger rise in him, as if she’d seen right through him.
His temper flared, almost bursting out of him.
“Give in? Ha, does she deserve it?”
Mabel felt a spark of satisfaction in her chest.
Given how much Alijah was torturing Marcus, he clearly wasn’t planning to let Gemma back in. Looks like he was really set on divorce
“Max, don’t be angry. Gemma just wants your attention. Maybe after the cooling–off period ends, she won’t even show up
on purpose.
“Hmm, even if she doesn’t show up, I’ll make sure she does. Divorce is no joke. Once it’s been brought up, there’s no going back.”
“Max, this will hurt Gemma’s feelings.”
“Ha, everyone has to pay for their actions. She deserves it.”
Mabel let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Looks like the divorce was inevitable!
“Max, the food’s getting cold. You should try it.”
Marcus reluctantly ate a few bites.
After dinner, Mabel played some games with Alijah, but then Naomi came in with an urgent work report.
Mabel had to leave
As she walked out, a delivery arrived a lunch box.
“This is for Alijah Wilson.”
The delivery guy looked at the slip and asked, “Who is Mr. Alijah?”
Marcus furrowed his brow, reaching out to take it. “It’s for me.”
After signing for it, the delivery guy handed it over and left.
Marcus opened the box, and inside was a beautifully arranged four–course meal and soup.
Even though it hadn’t been eaten yet, just looking at it, he knew who had made it.
Gemma’s move wasn’t exactly clever.
She’d already apologized over the phone. If she had just softened up a little, he wouldn’t have minded. Now, she regretted it and thought sending food would win them over.
Ha…
In her dreamy!
He put the insulated box aside and asked, “Ali, do you want to eat your mom’s cooking?”
Alijah had just finished a chicken leg and was too full to eat any more, even if it was a feast. “No, no,”
He shook his head vigorously, shouting, “I don’t want mom’s food! I want Mabel to bring me food.” That way, he could have fried chicken and burgers every day.
