Chapter 20: The Mistress Hits His Own Kid
Brooke was stunned.
Promised what?
He thought about it for a long time.
It wasn’t until Cassius carried an incense burner into the bedroom that it clicked.
Back when they were abroad, Cassius had promised to trust Gemma.
But…
He scratched the back of his head.
That didn’t mean putting his own life on the line, right?
Still, since Cassius had made up his mind, Brooke, as his assistant, didn’t dare argue.
The least he could do was sacrifice some sleep to keep an extra close watch
Noah woke up early.
He had preschool today.
But the moment he got up, the villa was eerily quiet.
Weird
At this time, Uncle Cass was usually already having those department heads report in.
It was always so noisy; it drove him crazy.
Frowning, Noah headed downstairs.
The department heads were all pacing anxiously, while Uncle Brooke sat there as calm as a monk, not letting anyone say a word.
“You’re up, young master.”
Brooke spoke in a hushed tone. “Breakfast is ready. Eat up, and Archibald will drive you to school.”
Noah, full of questions, wasn’t in a hurry to cat. Instead, he asked,
“Archi, what’s going on? Where’s Uncle Cass?”
“Mr. Raven hasn’t woken up yet.”
What?
Did he just mishear that?
Since he could remember, Uncle Cass had been a night owl who barely slept.
Even when he did, it was only for two or three hours.
He never, ever stayed in bed.
“Is Uncle Cass sick?”
It was the only explanation he could come up with.
And then it hit him–he’d completely forgotten about someone.
“Where’s Gemma? Did you guys send her away? She’s a doctor! Bring her back, quick!”
Brooke pressed a finger to his lips.
“Shhh, young master. Ms. Kelestine hasn’t gotten up yet either.”
Noah blinked.
Archi was acting totally weird today–talking in riddles he couldn’t make sense of
“Ms. Kelestine spent the night here, in the room next to yours,” Brooke added.

Noah was in disbelief.
Uncle Cass, with his grumpy, impossible–to–please attitude, might at most send Gemma back home.
But letting her stay overnight?
He bolted upstairs.
Just as he reached Gemma’s door, someone came around the corner.
ཐ ཌ ཌ ཋ ད
It was Uncle Cass.
“Uncle Cass?”
Something was off about him today.
How to describe it?
The old Uncle Cass had always been looked like he lived under a storm cloud.
Oppressive and icy.
Sometimes, Noah even found him kind of scary.
But today…
Uncle Cass seemed like he was bathed in sunlight.
Warm Cozy,
He even seemed approachable.
“Hm? Why aren’t you at school yet?”
Seeing Uncle Cass alive and well, and even looking better than usual, Noah let out a sigh of relief.
But the next second, Uncle Cass brought up school.
Noah instantly deflated.
“I want Gemma to take me to school”
“No. There’s no need to trouble her.”
Noah’s eyes
went wide. “But Gemma stayed because of me!”
“She has more important things to do.”
“Then I want Gemma to stay here tonight, too!”
Cassius paused for a moment. “Fine.”
Noah lit up, grinning. “Then I’m sleeping with Gemma tonight!”
Cassius’s brows furrowed.
“No.”
“Yes, I am! You definitely bullied Gemma yesterday! Otherwise, why isn’t she up yet? I’m going to protect her tonight!”
The little guy was righteously indignant, completely oblivious to how his words could be taken.
Cassius froze for a second.
If he were being honest… last night, he had pushed some boundaries.
Seeing Cassius hesitate, Noah puffed up even more. “Gemma is minel She can’t be bullied!”
A faint smile tugged at Cassius’s lips.
“What if you wet the bed?”
“Ah! Uncle Cass, stop saying that! You’re so mean!“
Noah’s face turned bright red.
But he didn’t dare yell, worried about waking Gemma up.
Cassius asked back, “So, are you going to school or not?”

Noah slumped even more.
Like a defeated rooster.
“School”
He reluctantly agreed.
But he wasn’t giving up–he’d try again tonight!
Hmphl
When Gemma woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
She stretched, grabbed her phone, and checked the time.
When she saw it was already 10 AM, she jumped up in shock.
“Was I drugged last night? I’m gonna be so late!”
She quickly rushed out..
Brooke kindly reminded her, “Ms. Kelestine, I already called in leave for you. You can sleep a bit longer.” ||
Gemma froze. “Leave?”
“Yeah”
Brooke smiled. “You said you needed to help Mr. Raven adjust his meds today.”
Gemma slapped her forehead.
She almost forgot
She’d stayed up late yesterday thinking about the use of a certain medication, and that’s why she overslept.
*Alright, then. Can you grab a few things for me?”
Brooke was super respectful and always willing to help.
Gemma really liked people who respected her expertise while paying her well.
At the Wilsons‘ house.
After Alijah fell into the water, he had gone home, but in the middle of the night, he started running a fever.
Mabel noticed in time and quickly took him to the hospital.
Marcus had a client to meet and could only leave them at the hospital for now.
Mabel was very understanding.
“Don’t worry, I used to be a doctor. I’ll take good care of Ali and make sure he gets better soon.”
Marcus nodded.
“Thanks. I really appreciate it.”
“It’s no trouble at all, really. Don’t say that, now I feel shy.”
Marcus thought she was way more obedient and comforting than most
“I’ll come by to check on you both after I’m done.”
Mabel watched him leave, then turned to look at Alijah, who was being held by the assistant, his face flushed and his mind hazy.
She took a step back, feeling frustrated.
“What are you standing there for? Go get him registered.”
The assistant froze.
Ms. Johnson wasn’t like this earlier.
But he didn’t dare say anything, so he hurried to get Alijah in line.

nty minutes later,
Twenty
When it was finally Alijah’s turn, he suddenly woke up.
As soon as he saw the white coat, he remembered the pain of shots and medicine, and started crying non–stop.
The assistant couldn’t hold him on his own.
“Ms. Johnson, please help!”
Mabel, wearing a hat and mask for privacy, was busy sending texts on her phone.
When the assistant called for help, she looked frustrated.
“Good grief.”
But when she turned around and saw Alijah had woken up, her face instantly softened with concern.
“Ali, don’t be scared, Auntie’s here. We’ll let the doctor take a look, and you’ll feel better.”
Alijah was in too much pain to listen to this and cried even louder.
“I don’t want the doctor, I want to go home, I want to leave!”
He struggled with all his might, trying to break free from the assistant, but Mabel quickly hugged him.
Alijah fought harder, sweating all over, almost pushing Mabel over.
Mabel had run out of patience and gave his bottom a couple of sharp pinches.
