Chapter 55
The woman hastily put down the phone, stood up, and called out, “Cathy, this lady claims to be the new secretary and says that the HR department asked her to report here. But the secretarial office has always been full, and we’re not hiring. She must be mistaken, or maybe the HR department made a mistake. I’m about to call them to confirm.”
The woman named Cathy curled her lips slightly at Alyssa, appearing nice but actually a bit haughty as she asked, “May I have your name, miss?”
Alyssa offered her a polite smile in return. “Alyssa Dawson.”
“Ms. Dawson, I believe the HR Department won’t make such a mistake. So, I think you’re well aware of the reason why are you here for orientation. After all, a soldier who doesn’t aspire to be a general is not a good soldier, and similarly, a secretary who doesn’t aim to work for Mr. Coleman is not a good secretary. It’s commendable to have such grand ambitions, but we need to take things one step at a time. Shortcuts don’t work here”
She approached Alyssa. At the sight of Alyssa’s cool yet beautiful face, she felt a twinge of jealousy. She had been with Andrew for several years, accompanying him to every important event and business negotiation. Even when Simon was absent, she was always there. They seemed so close, yet Andrew had never made any intimate gestures toward her, not even a personal word, strictly maintaining a professional distance.
She had always wondered why. One day, she overheard Simon talking to Andrew, asking him what kind of woman he liked.
Andrew’s response was “beauty.” He said she should at least be pleasing to the eye.
So, he had never shown interest in me because I wasn’t pretty enough, right?‘ Cathy wondered.

She had always been quite concerned about beauties.
Over the past few years, she had personally overseen the recruitment at the HR department in her spare time, striving to prevent the company from hiring any attractive faces.
Who let her in?‘ she wondered. With an arrogant gaze, she looked at Alyssa and said, “Ms. Dawson, please leave. What you did today makes you unsuitable for any position in the company. I will inform the HR department that you are not a fit for our company.”
Alyssa looked at her, raising an eyebrow, retorting inwardly, ‘Did she think she could take away the job I had fought so hard for?‘
“What have I done?” she scoffed.
“Hmph.” Cathy coldly glanced at her. “Sarah, call security to send irrelevant people out of the company.”
Finishing, she walked toward her office in her high heels.
Yes, she had her own office. As Andrew’s chief secretary, she had command over the six people in the public area.
“Sure.” Sarah promptly picked up the desk phone and called security.
Meanwhile, Alyssa gave a cold smile; she didn’t think Cathy was targeting her, after all, she had no interaction with Cathy, so
upon first meeting. there was no reason for Cathy to dislike her
Therefore, she only felt it was because Andrew wasn’t planning to give her a job and had instructed the secretary to treat her this way.
Originally, she thought the job for her would be in the design department or the business department, and then it turned into a secretary, which she accepted. ‘Now, he didn’t even want me to be a secretary? Is he making fun of me?‘ Alyssa said inwardly.
