Chapter 754
Nina sat by the window. Through the glass, she saw the tarmac outside. It was much smaller than the one at Birkham Airport, with narrow white lines painted on the concrete and only a simple wire fence surrounding it.
The plane landed abruptly, without the usual gradual descent. The sudden drop made Nina’s stomach lurch, and a strong wave of nausea hit her. She couldn’t hold it back and began to retch.
Scarlett, sitting beside her, immediately straightened up and placed a hand on Nina’s shoulder. “Nina, just hold on for a bit. It will pass soon.”
Scarlett had been through professional training. She had once grabbed a helicopter’s hanging ladder with one hand, swinging up and down in the air, which was far more thrilling than this.
Scarlett was unfazed and even tried to comfort Nina. “We’re in first class, so we’ll get off the plane soon.”
“Okay,” Nina panted, feeling awful but managing to endure it.
Despite being in first class and getting off the plane first, there was no jet bridge. They had to walk down the stairs and across the tarmac.
This place wasn’t even a third the size of Birkham Airport. It wasn’t even as big as Birkham University’s basketball court. The grass was littered with plastic waste, and a gust of wind blew sand into Nina’s eyes.
Scarlett held Nina’s hand. “I’ll get the luggage. You find a place to sit and wait for me. We’ll need to find a translator to help us get to Yaren.”
Without someone who spoke the local language, they wouldn’t get far.
“Alright,” Nina agreed without hesitation.
Retrieving luggage here wasn’t like in their home country where it came on a conveyor belt. Ilere, they had to collect it from the counter manually. Fortunately, they didn’t have much, just one small suitcase each.
Scarlett returned with their luggage. “How are you feeling? If you’re still queasy, I’ll get you something to drink.”
Nina shook her head. This place barely qualified as an airport. It was worse than a remote bus station back home, with rusted signs and creaky chairs.
“Let’s find a nearby hotel first. I have to wait for someone to bring us some things.” sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
“Okay,” Nina agreed again, trusting Scarlett’s plans.
Worried about Nina’s ability to handle the conditions, Scarlett chose the best hotel near the airport. It was comparable to a basic business hotel back home.
Nina lay on the bed, her limbs finally relaxed, but she still felt exhausted. She hadn’t heard anything from Scott or Nash.
Suddenly, she remembered Scott. She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed his number.
“Buzz… Buzz…” The phone rang twice before the call was automatically disconnected. Scarlett took her phone, fiddled with it for a moment, and handed it back.
“You need to enable international roaming to make calls.”
“I completely forgot about that,” Nina said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Nash had once talked about taking her to Frangelia, but they never went. The farthest she had traveled was to a neighboring city. She was too eager.
Scarlett said, “Rest for a bit. Room service will bring our meal soon. After we eat and I get what we need, we’ll head to Yaren.” “Alright,” Nina nodded.
She kept trying to reach Scott. The first call rang for a long time with no answer. There was still no answer the second time. Just as she was contemplating sending a text, Scott’s number appeared on her screen, calling her back.
She quickly answered.
