Chapter 734
Nash gazed deeply at her, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “Nina, you’ve always brought me surprises.”
Hearing this, Nina felt reassured. She grasped Nash’s hand, her eyes welling up with tears. “Please, don’t disappoint me again, okay? The baby and I want a stable family, a healthy environment to grow up in. This isn’t too much to ask, is it? You’ve experienced it yourself, haven’t you?”
Nash replied, “You won’t forgive me.”
Nina furrowed her brows. “Why wouldn’t I forgive you? I know you’ve sacrificed a lot for me. Even if there were difficulties, as long as I can understand, I’m willing to believe in you.”
“Understood,” Nash said softly. “Then I’ll tell you the truth. You were right. I had held Miranda captive, but she’s not here anymore. Don’t worry, I won’t face any repercussions. I’ve made her pay for what she did to you.”
He smiled as he said this, as if avenging her brought him great satisfaction, making Nina feel uneasy.
“What did you do?” she asked.
Nash patted her head. “Nothing too severe. She’s alive, don’t worry.”
Nina felt unsettled. She did not think Nash was a violent person. While she pondered, Nash continued, “It might be boring here. I’ll make sure your friends visit you often, and I’ll come by when I can.”
“Okay,” Nina replied. “When can I see the baby?”
Nash paused. “Only the doctor knows for sure. After you’ve recovered for a bit, perhaps.”
“Alright,” Nina said. “After almost ten months in my belly, what’s another month? Make sure to share the good news with Aunt Zoe too.”
“Of course.”
There was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Nash called.
Scarlett peeked her head in and asked, “Is this a good time?”
“Yes, come in,” Nina said, surprised. “What happened to your red hair?” Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ƒ)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
Scarlett had cut her hair short and tied it back into a neat ponytail. The change from her usual red hair to black made her look more professional and composed. She walked in with a slight smile. “I dyed it black. Looks good, right?”
Nina noticed Scarlett’s new style. She used to wear more revealing clothes, showing off her waist or cleavage, looking very sexy and drawing attention wherever she went. Now, she was dressed conservatively, which made her look like a modest lady.
Nina carefully looked her over and said, “It looks great! You’re still very beautiful. Why the sudden change?”
Scarlett coughed lightly and stood up straight, almost like she was reporting to a superior. “I’m no longer an assassin. I’m now a soldier.”
Nina was shocked again.
“A soldier?” Nina exclaimed. “I’ve been unconscious for just a week, and everything’s changed so much. Are you alright?” She had been worried Scarlett might end up in jail.
Scarlett walked over, grinning. “I’m fine now, thanks to Captain York. He gave me a new identity. I’m officially enlisted now!” “That’s wonderful news!” Nina was genuinely happy for her. “Congratulations, Scarlett! We can see each other more often now.” Scarlett was just as thrilled. She thought her life was over, destined either to die or continue living as someone else’s pawn. But she had been rescued from that grim fate.
She hugged Nina lightly. “Thanks to you, Nina. Meeting you was my greatest fortune.”
