Chapter 145
Back inside the cafe, Yvette got up and walked toward Daphne. Then, she lowered her voice and spoke next to her ear.

“Didn’t you say I’ve changed? Why did you still think I’d fall for your tricks then? I was fully aware of your schemes back then, I just couldn’t care less! You should stop using such lowly tactics from here on out.”
After Yvette wa
Yvette was done talking, Daphne’s face grew terrifyingly dark.
Yvette marched out of the cafe and headed toward the back. She followed the directions Ray had sent her and found no parked vehicle there. She couldn’t help but breathe out a sigh of relief.
All of a sudden, she realized that Xavier wasn’t the same boy she used to like. That boy was more simple–minded. He would’ve made her happy and wouldn’t have doubted her.
Dejected, she got in the car and left.
Subsequently, Daphne also walked out. She had just left the cafe when a man abruptly grabbed her hand and took her to a secluded area.
“I missed you so much, Daph.” Andy Hold was incredibly unkempt. His beard had grown out, and he looked like he hadn’t slept in days.
Daphne lifted her hand to push him away. “Why did you follow me all the way here, Andy? How many times do I have to tell you? I’m not going to go to Longview Bay with you.
“If you
truly want the best for me, you’d go back alone. Stop hanging around in Tirion.”
Her words pained Andy. “Is it because of Xavier? He doesn’t actually like you. If he did, why hasn’t he married you?”
Daphne was unfazed by his assumptions. “So what? At least he can give me what I want.”
Andy froze.
“What can you offer me?” Daphne added on.
“…”
“In your current state, you can’t offer me anything.”
He shook his head and held onto her arm firmly. “My company might be bankrupt, but I can still compose. I can compose for you and you alone.”
She scoffed in contempt. “I don’t need your little tunes. Your talent ran out ages ago–you should’ve admitted it by now.”

“How can you be so heartless?” Andy’s eyes welled up with tears. “If it hadn’t been for me, you wouldn’t be where you are now. Look at how you’re acting now that I need your help!”
Upon noticing how enraged he was getting, Daphne switched her tone.
“Can you please be more mature about this, Andy?” She said gently, “We’re all looking for a mutually beneficial relationship.

“Look at what you’ve become. You weren’t this ruined when I left. It’s been five yea doing great now, while you haven’t grown up at all.
“Besides, I’m the only one who’s still willing to talk to you–no other woman would do the same. It’s honestly hurtful that you’d call me heartless!”
As she spoke, Andy calmed down. “I only became ruined because I lost you.”
She exhaled deeply. “But as a man, shouldn’t you be protecting me? You can’t possibly expect me to take care of you in the future.
“You’ve been camping here the entire time, so you must have seen what happened earlier. I’m getting picked on, but you can’t help me.”

Andy listened quietly until she was done. Then, he let go of her determined look.
“I can protect you!” he declared before leaving without another word.
Daphne watched him leave. She dusted the areas where he had touched her. She had a cunning look in her eyes.
“Were you unhappy about my tactics, Yvette Snyder? I’ll show you how low I can go!” she thought to herself.
