Chapter 212
Anthony decided he needed to figure things out before leaving. It was drizzling outside in the middle of the night. After laying in bed for a long time and still feeling conflicted, he decided to get up. He didn’t want to leave yet; if the rain stopped tomorrow, Amy would definitely ask him to leave because she was avoiding him. So, he had to do something. Anthony quietly left the cabin in the dark and checked out the surroundings in the rain. Soon, he found the flooded bridge. Since the rain had let up, the main part of the bridge, which was made of wood, was now visible. If it didn’t rain any harder tonight, it could be usable by tomorrow: Anthony stood by the bridge, thinking for a long time. Finally, he quietly went back to the cabin, grabbed a machete, and returned. He waded to the bridge, studied its structure, and then hacked at a few key points. After making sure the bridge was weakened, he went back to the riverbank and kicked at it. With the help of the flowing water, the wooden bridge quickly broke apart. and Anthony raised his brows slightly as his goal was achieved.
When he returned to the cabin, he saw a dim light in one of the ro
rooms. If he remembered correctly, it was Amy’s room. It was time for bed since it was the middle of the night now, but he heard Theodore crying. He felt worried and wanted to check on them. As he quickly walked over, he realized he was soaked. Showing up like this was definitely going to rouse suspicion. He hurried back to his room, found some clean clothes in the wardrobe, changed, and ran to Amy’s room.
Theodore’s crying had since quieted down, and he could hear a gentle song from inside. It was likely Amy singing to soothe him. Anthony stood at the door as he didn’t dare to interrupt. Suddenly, the wind blew the window open a crack, and he could see inside from his position. Without considering propriety, he leaned in and peeked. Amy, in her pajamas, was sitting on the bed with her back to the window, holding Theodore and gently rocking him. Theodore was lugging on Amy’s pajama top, revealing her waist. When Anthony saw a small butterfly mark on Amy’s skin, he froze, holding his breath. A strong, indescribable sadness spread through him. Unable to control himself, he burst in and pointed at the mark. He felt like he had so much to say but couldn’t get the words out. His head was pounding with confusion and pain.
Amy didn’t expect anyone to barge in at that moment. She was so scared that she clutched Theodore tightly and shrank into the comer of the bed. When she saw Anthony’s expression and where he was pointing, she thought he had regained his memory and turned pale with fear. At this moment, Amy’s face was uncovered, revealing the long sear that was normally hidden by her veil. However, Anthony didn’t care. He had already disregarded whether his actions would scare her as he clutched his head in pain and stammered, “W–why… w–why… does the m–mark on your waist… feel s–so familiar to me? Did we know each other before?” Amy was already terrified, and Theodore started crying loudly again.

“Get out!” She grabbed whatever was nearby and threw it at Anthony. When she saw blood trickling from Anthony’s forehead, she realized what she had thrown. It was a wooden toy George had made for Theodore, and it was somewhat weighted, which explained the bleeding. The blow snapped Anthony back to reality. Looking at Amy and Theodore on the bed, he wiped the blood from his forehead and quickly apologized, Tm sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I was just worried about Theodore and came to check on him. But when I saw the mark on your waist, I lost control of my emotions. The intense feeling in Anthony’s heart hadn’t faded, and it weighed heavily on him, almost bringing him to tears.
Amy, trying to calm herself, angrily pointed at the door. “Get out. I don’t want to see you?

Tm sorry Anthony apologized again before leaving with his head down. Once he was gone, Amy quickly got out of bed and locked the door, She felt completely drained. Theodore was still crying in her arms, and she gently touched his forehead, which felt even houer. Theodore was prematurely born and had a weak immune system. His fevers always stayed high when he got sick. They were out of fever medicine, and the natural remedies didn’t seem to work for him. To buy fever medicine, she had to cross the wooden bridge. However, the river had risen, making it impossible. She had tried everything she could think of, but Theodore’s fever wouldn’t go down. Thinking about Anthony’s behavior earlier, Amy frowned slightly. She thought. Maybe fate wants him to help the child”
Meanwhile, Anthony walked back to his room, taking heavy steps, still thinking about what had just happened. He lay on his bed, unable to sleep. The feeling he had carlier was so intense; he was certain something had happened between him and Amy. Lost in thought, he suddenly heard a knock on the door. Confused, he got up and opened it to see Amy holding Theodore. He asked worriedly. “What’s wrong?” It was late at night, and after what had just happened, she wouldn’t have come to him unless it was serious.
Desperately, Amy said, “I don’t know what else to do. Theodore’s fever won’t go down, and I can’t think of anyone else to turn to.”
Anthony noticed Theodore’s unusually flushed face. His expression changed instantly, and he quickly took Theodore from her. “What do I need to do?”
“I need to take him to the hospital, but the river has risen. Can you help us get across?” Amy asked.
“Okay, don’t worry, I’ll help you, Anthony agreed without hesitation. They both hurried to the door with Theodore.
Then Anthony remembered he had destroyed the bridge earlier. He stopped and asked Amy, “Is there any other way out”
“No, the quickest way is across the river. Otherwise, we’d have to scale the cliffs around here. But the rocks and trees are slippery, given that it just rained. It’s very dangerous, Amy quickly replied.
“Tell me what medicine you need, and I’ll scale the cliffs to get it, Anthony said,
“But that’s too dangerous,” Amy protested.
“Crossing the river is more dangerous, Anthony replied without hesitation
Amy looked at him in surprise. “I’m better at climbing than swimming, Anthony said, forcing a smile and giving her an excuse. But Amy still didn’t

want him to take the risk. Just as she was about to refuse again. Anthony took a step forward and said, “You know this area well. Tell me where it’s
easiest to climb”
