Chapter 1529Smiling, Thalassa turned to Alaric, “Of course, we consider you a friend. Aren’t you busy right now?
Wait until we get the barbecue ready, then come over.”
“But…” Hertha started to protest.
“Let’s go, let’s start getting the stuff we need.” Thalassa interrupted Hertha, pulling her towards her
house.
Once inside, shutting the door behind them cut off Alaric’s prying eyes.
Hertha, in a fluster, said, “Thalassa, why did you invite Alaric over? How can we have him over for
dinner at our place?”
“Trust me, I know how to keep a secret. The more you push Alaric away, the more suspicious he’ll
get. Didn’t you see him almost catching on just now?” Thalassa explained.
Blinking, Hertha calmed down and thought about it. True, Alaric had already sensed something was
off and hadn’t started digging yet. If they aroused his suspicions further, and he started
investigating, the consequences could be dire.

Her situation couldn’t withstand scrutiny.
“So, what do we do now?” Hertha asked nervously.
“Contact Spencer and Bridget. Tell Bridget not to bring the kids back just yet and to take them to
Spencer’s place for a bit. After Spencer sorts them out, he’ll come over for the barbecue and
pretend to be your husband,” Thalassa instructed calmly.
“Okay, okay, I’ll call Bridget now to keep the kids out a little longer and not come back yet,” Hertha
said, quickly grabbing her phone to call Bridget.Meanwhile, Thalassa quietly began to stash away all signs of the kids at Hertha’s place.
Toys, baby bottles, everything was tucked away in closets to ensure that when Alaric arrived, he
wouldn’t find a trace.
After the call, Hertha started to prepare for the meal.
Amid their hectic preparations, the doorbell suddenly rang, sending Hertha and Thalassa’s hearts
racing. They exchanged worried glances.

“Did Alaric really get so impatient he’s already here for dinner?” Hertha fretted. “Thalassa, did you
get all the kids’ stuff hidden?”
As Thalassa crammed the last of the tiny shoes into a closet, she reassured, “All set, we can open
the door.”
Only after ensuring everything was in place did Hertha approach the door and swing it open.
Ready to chide Alaric, she paused, seeing instead Spencer’s elegantly handsome face.
“Spencer, it’s you. Welcome back,” Hertha said, her voice softening as she smiled.

Spencer’s interaction with a smirk, “Spencer, seems like your place in the family isn’t too strong, eh?
Having to ring your own doorbell?”
Hertha’s heart sank. Had Alaric seen through their pretend marriage? Was Alaric really that
perceptive?
As Hertha tensed, Spencer calmly and gracefully replied, “I usually get off work later than Hertha,
so I’m used to her being home first. And I like her opening the door for me—it means she’s the firstperson I see.”
This unexpected show of affection took everyone by surprise.
Alaric had intended to embarrass Spencer, yet Spencer’s smooth retort left him feeling blocked and
somewhat envious, despite the undeniable fact of Spencer and Hertha’s “marriage.”
