Chapter 73
They can never mix
Kade pulled out the chair for me and then moved to sit across from me. He had all the chairs and desks in the classroom removed but I couldn’t get over the necklace. When did he have time to buy this?
It was a big rock. I could see my face in it. Kade had good taste in jewellery. I’d treasure this forever. I brushed the cold stone and smiled. Kade’s chuckle made me snap my head up.
“What?”
“Am I going to get any attention tonight?”
“After this? I’ll give you anything you want!”
He laughed. He placed an open hand on the table and stared at me. I squeezed his hand. I had to address the elephant in the room. Could it be worse than my Dad telling me the woman I cherished as my Mom wasn’t my Mother?
What’s on your mind, baby?”
“A lot. Kade.”
His brows dipped. A woman in black pants and a white shirt walked in holding a notepad. She smiled at
“Ready to order?” She asked.
“Give us a minute, please, Kade said
She bobbed her head and turned to leave.
“Want to talk about it?” He asked.
There were candles on the floor and roses everywhere I didn’t want to ruin a romantic night with accusations. He squeezed my hand to bring me back to our conversation.
“We have to… what are you keeping from me, Kade?”
He released my hand and leaned back in the chair.
“Why do you think I’m hiding something from you?”
Here we go again more lies.
“Because you are. You, Kade, my Dad, Head Mistress Athena even Gareth!”
“Whoa, what about Gareth?” He lurched forward.
I waved my hand. “Never mind him. You never told me how you lost my necklace, you’ve been cryptic like when you mentioned who I really am. I doubted you meant me being a Luna.

He turned to the candles burning in the corner and cursed.
“This isn’t the right time.”
“Why? Because of Battle Season?”
“No, because it’s dangerous. My Dad can’t find out who you are or who your Father is.”
“What about me!” I pushed back the chair and stood. It’s not fair, Kade. You’re not thinking about me. My Dad didn’t tell me the woman who raised me wasn’t my Mom. My life’s a mess and I barely know who I am.”
Kade stood as well. He came around and cupped my cheeks. He brushed stray tears from my face.
“You are brave, strong, you’re fearless, you’re amazing Gabbie. Wolf or not you’ll always be incredible. I’m a selfish bastard I’ll admit it. I don’t want to lose you. I’ve lied, I’ve hidden things and destroyed evidence just to keep you safe.
He held my head in place and gazed into my eyes. He wasn’t selfish. He loved me and I loved him. He put himself on the line and fought with his Dad all for me. Did the moon goddess think I would be worth the trouble? I wiggled out of his grip and circled my arms around his middle and squeezed.
“I thought it would be better if your Dad told you though, but he’s a hard man to keep track of.”
I giggled. “Yeah.”
He stepped back and then shoved his hand in his pocket and pulled out another chain. A silver pendant of an arrow and an axe crossed together dangled in his hand.
“You found it!” I gasped.
“I never lost it. It was in my drawer the entire time. I couldn’t let you wear it.”
“Why? Please… don’t hide anything from me.”
He let out a shaky breath. “You’ve got no traces of wolf in you baby. This necklace belongs to Hunters.”
“Excuse me?” As in the people who tracked and killed wolves so they could wipe out the werewolf line? “That’s insane!”
“It’s true. Think about it, the illegal blows. Gabbie, they come naturally for you.”
“I told you my Mom taught me how to fight! She isn’t a wolf and she’s been terrified her whole life of
them
Hunters were monsters. They killed innocent wolves for the sake of killing. How could he call me monster because of a pendant that belonged to my Father? I marched to the window and gripped the frame. How long did he think this?
“I’m not a Hunter. If I’m not a wolf, I’m human.”
Kade lingered behind me. “Baby, that woman wasn’t your Mother and you told me Erik said your real

“Stop. He’s a lot of things but he isn’t a monster like those people!”
“I had someone look into the pendant and they told me it belonged to Hunters.”
I shut my eyes and shook my head. Dad told me he’d been tracking the wolf prowling around the Academy. He used a knife like a master. All that travelling he did when I was younger. My heart pounded so fast and I panted heavily I thought I would faint. The reason he was running was because he was a monster and the wolves wanted to kill him before he killed them.
“No… my Mom… my Mom was a wolf how could she mate a Hunter? That’s forbidden.”
“I’m glad she did…” Kade trailed. His hand rubbed my shoulder. “I wouldn’t have you if she didn’t.”
I span. Tears stained my face as the gravitas of the situation weighed heavily on me. I wasn’t a wolf–less. I was a Hunter and that was worse.
“Our relationship is forbidden.”
“Screw that Gabbie. I love you and I’m determined to be with you.”
He wasn’t thinking. Wolves weren’t allowed to mate with other creatures. If they did their offspring cursed somehow. The same would be for us.
was
“You see why I kept quiet? If you’re found out they could try to separate us and you could be kicked out of the school.”
There’s that. I legitimately don’t belong here. All my life I’ve been waiting for a wolf that would never appear. I felt like a fool.
“Can we get out of here, please?” I clutched my arms.
“Of course, baby, I’m sorry I didn’t want things to turn out like this.”
“Can we just go back to your room? Please?”
He nodded and tucked me under his arm. A perfect date is ruined because of lies started by one man. I was determined to find him now and demand the entire truth even if it killed me.
Kade kissed the top of my head and opened the classroom door. A man with a black and white beard stood on the other end. His blue eyes scanned the room behind us. He wasn’t alone, Two men stood on either side of him.
“Damn it, Dad,” Kade pushed me behind him and shielded me from the three shifters.
“You couldn’t hide her forever, Kaden.”
“You’re not touching her.”
“I’m the Alpha, Kaden! You don’t give me orders.”
“I don’t have to obey you. Now back up! No one touches my mate!”
