Chapter 184 What On Earth Is Josiah Up To
“What’s going on? Is it really that serious?” Lysander inquired, noticing the concern etched deeply on Laura’s face.
Laura began, “When your father and I returned a short while ago, we found a notice from the local authorities downstairs. It mentioned that our building is scheduled for demolition.”
Surprised by the news, Lysander questioned, “When did they announce this?”
“They’re urging everyone to move out before Independence Day.”
Realizing it was already July, Lysander calculated the short time frame left, barely over two months until the deadline in October.
“So suddenly? Wasn’t there any warning beforehand?” Lysander pressed further.
Maverick interjected, “There had been some whispers about it, but your mother and I didn’t really believe them. Our apartment is a government–subsidized unit given by my workplace. We figured if it really came to demolition, the compensation wouldn’t be substantial…”
Understanding the situation, Lysander remained composed and offered a solution, “Well, since I’m still on break, I’ll start looking for a rental for us.”

Laura responded with a wry smile, “Finding a rental is one thing, but what about you and your sister? We’ve always been hardworking, hoping that selling this house would someday help support you financially, but now that’s not going to happen…”

“Don’t worry about it,” Lysander reassured her, “I’ll just need to save a little longer before I can afford a house.. And as for Michelle, she’s only just started university. Who knows? Maybe she’ll be successful enough in the future to buy her own house and car.”
Maverick gave a small laugh. “I have no doubts you could achieve that on your own, but your sister… well, she still acts quite immaturely. Remember how right after your college entrance exam, you were already earning money tutoring, while she was still infatuated with her physics teacher?”
Dad, you
shouldn’t be so quick to judge her,” Lysander defended her sister. “I might be successful, but she’s my sister–she’s got potential too.”
“She’s not…”
“Maverick!” Laura sharply interrupted, slapping him on the shoulder.
Maverick quickly corrected his tone, “Just as every offspring is unique, our daughters may have inherited different qualities. Let’s not worry about this now. Once your break is over, you should head back to work. You don’t want the hospital to replace you because you’ve been away too long. You have a respectable and well–paying job; you should focus on that.”
Lysander nodded. “I understand, don’t worry.”
“Indeed, you’ve always been the reliable one, not causing us any worry, unlike Michelle,” Laura sighed.
Desiring to shift the conversation away from potential conflicts, Lysander asked, “Dad, what prompted the sudden demolition notice? Our home is quite remote from the city center. Why would they want our land?”
Maverick explained, “I spoke with Lance at the reception desk downstairs. He mentioned that a company
nlans to build an amusement nark on our land”

Maverick explained, “I spoke with Lance at the reception desk downstairs. He mentioned that a company plans to build an amusement park on our land.”
Lysander pondered this for a moment, recognizing the logic. The land here is cheaper, and being far from the city center, it’s perfect for something like an amusement park.
Maverick added, “And you know, when you came back, Mdm. Camila mentioned that Zach’s architectural design company is handling the construction.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, but they’re just responsible for the design work. They don’t make decisions about the demolition,” Maverick clarified.
Curious, Lysander asked, “Which company is listed on the announcement?”
“It was something like… “Walter Constructions? That sounds right.”
A sense of unease washed over Lysander. The company sounded alarmingly familiar.
Though she hadn’t encountered him directly, she knew that her former father–in–law’s name was Walt
Guerra
Yet, it might have been that she was overthinking things.
Guerra Group’s business empire typically involved luxury residential developments and hotels, not amusement parks.
Nevertheless, to confirm her suspicions, she pulled out her phone to check. And sure enough–Walter Constructions, a subsidiary of Guerra Group, was involved.
With a chuckle, Lysander grabbed her phone and headed out.
From behind, Laura called out, “Lysander, where are you off to? Dinner’s almost ready.”
“I’m just going to make a quick phone call. Go ahead and start without me,” Lysander replied, stepping out to gather her thoughts..
