Chapter 1459Thalassa’s heart leaped into her throat as she considered the consequences. In a moment of
anxiety, she noticed Helena’s gaze drifting toward her from the safety of Bridget’s arms.
novelbinWith her heart skipping a beat, Thalassa moved quickly, almost without thinking. She slipped behind
the corridor’s wall, letting it shield her from view.
The last thing she needed was for Helena to call out “Aunt Thalassa” and draw attention. If that
happened, Alaric would surely piece together her familiarity with the children. Alaric, a shrewd and
prominent figure in the Falconer Group, wouldn’t miss a beat.
If he discovered her connection to the kids, he would inevitably uncover that they were Hertha’s—a
truth that Hertha had gone to great lengths to conceal. She had invested in a new home and hired a
nanny, all to keep her children hidden from the prying eyes of the Falconer family, fearing they might
try to take them away.

If Thalassa’s carelessness led to Hertha losing her children, she would never forgive herself.
Hidden behind the wall, Thalassa’s heart pounded with fear that Helena might have seen her. The
situation was as tense as the time she had worried about Lysander discovering her own four
children.
In the midst of her panic, Alaric’s voice echoed through the hallway. “Lucky parents, to have such
adorable twins. You should get in the elevator before it leaves again.”
With a courteous step aside, Alaric allowed Bridget and the twins to enter the elevator.
He had never been particularly fond of children, but seeing these two strangers stirred something
warm in him. Perhaps he wasn’t as indifferent to kids as he thought; he simply hadn’t had the
chance to have his own. Ads by PubFuture
Despite his many affairs, Alaric had always been careful, never allowing any woman to bear his
child. The only exception was Hertha. Now, Hertha was married to Spencer, and there was no
mention of any children.
The idea of him and Hertha having a child seemed far-fetched to Alaric, and bitterness tinged his
thoughts.
Watching the numbers on the elevator descend, Alaric snapped back to reality and headed toward
Hertha’s hospital room. As he turned the corner, he spotted Thalassa nervously clutching a
thermos, her demeanor tense.
Alaric called out, “Thalassa, what’s wrong? Is there some issue with Hertha?”
His heart hitched with the question, concerned that Hertha might be in trouble.
Startled from her thoughts by the sound of her name, Thalassa turned to see Alaric and let out a
sigh of relief.
Patting her chest, she said, “No, no, Hertha’s fine. Don’t worry, Alaric. Didn’t you just drop Georgia
off? What brings you back here?”
Thalassa probed carefully. She was unsure of what Bridget might have told Alaric or if he had
recognized Julian and Helena. She couldn’t ask outright; that would be admitting to something she
was desperate to hide. So she settled for feeling him out.
As she spoke, Thalassa’s clear eyes watched Alaric intently, searching for any sign that might
reveal what he knew.
